Residential: Utilitarian
The term first originates from the loft apartments carved out of old warehouses in New York in the 1970s. These apartments were not meant for residential living, it was used for warehousing goods which result in comfort not being a priority. With minimal renovation in mind, the new inhabitants of he warehouses worked with the existing features of the space and turn them into functional features that can help house their goods.

System
In my project, I’m putting a lot of emphasis on how to bring down the renovation cost to the very minimal. Not just solely on decoration changes but including all furniture in the house. By having a modular system approach, the house can create an identity that allows it to be constantly flexible throughout the occupant duration of stay within this unit.

Spatial Planning
The main focus on this layout in on the red zone. This mix space zone is gonna be dynamic in its form, movable panels that can be installed and remove easily are located in this area. The purpose is to allow the owner to flexibly relocate the space for different needs in their upcoming lives. For instance, in my project, I will aim to do a time line that shows what they would expect in different phases of their lives and what customisation is suitable for the young couple.
